And we got on NESN.....

Andy and I tried to go on a tour of Fenway, but it was expensive and crowded so we decided against it. Instead, we hung out in Boston for the day. We picked up Meghan at South Station and arrived at the park a little before 5:00pm for our 16th and final game in the month. For this game we sat high up in the Bleachers near the Dunkin Donuts sign. The game was horrible, the Sox got killed by the Blue Jays. The park was nearly empty after the 7th inning so we moved up to the very top row and decided to stand with our sign for the rest of the game. Like always, people were reading it and taking our picture and in the 9th inning NESN put us on tv! Dad saw it, I guess we were on for about 30 seconds and Remy and Orsillo were talking about us.

on the trip we successfully, got on the Jumbotron, got a game ball, and got on tv!

In 30 days, we drove over 8,000 miles, saw 16 baseball games, and 16 different stadiums. We only spent about $1300 a piece, which wasn't bad considering the car was more than half of that. The game that had the most people was Cardinals v. Sox (50,270) and the least was Reds v. Devils Rays (16,381).

The final leg of the trip....

We got up early and were on the road by 9:00am. Meghan stayed in New York and will meet us in Boston tomorrow, so it was just the three of us for this final part of the drive. We got back to Boston around 3:00pm, we dropped off the rental car and all stayed in different places for the night.

We have one more game to go to tomorrow.

Mets v. Phillies

We picked up the rental car and were on the road by 10:30am. We drove to Caroline's house in New Jersey, and arrived around 2pm. We had an early dinner and left around 4pm for Shea Stadium. It looked like it was going to rain and we were hoping that the game would not get canceled. We hit so much traffic heading in to the city, it took us over 3 hours to get there! Adding to that, New York drivers are the worst. After one of the tolls, we hit this ridiculous merge, where 6 lanes were going down in to two. Everyone was creating their own path and I really thought we weren't going to get through it without denting our rental car! It ended up not mattering much that we were late for the game, the game was rain delayed.

Our seats were in the upper section, directly behind home plate. The stadium was pretty empty and the weather not great. The stadium itself was pretty old and run down, it definitely wasn't a favorite. It started pouring mid game, so we ended up moving down under the roof. The Phillies won 6-3.

After the game, it took us 40 minutes to get back to C's. What a difference than earlier!

Tomorrow we are heading back to Boston....

Nationals v. Pirates

We slept really late this morning, it has been a long month and we are exhausted! We left the house around 3, and headed into DC. We picked Andy up and drove to RFK stadium together. The parking lot of hte stadium was just a grass field. We were a little nervous about leaving the car there because just the other day two of the players cars were stolen! Needless to say, the field was not in the best area.RFK is actually a soccer stadium, so the stadium was very strange. It was round! The game flew by, the Nats ended up winning 2-1.

Tomorrow we are driving North to New York.

Orioles v. Yankees....

We spent the day exploring Camden Yards...We took the 1:15pm tour, it was really long and kind of boring.

We checked out a couple of museums around the park; the Babe Ruth Museum, and the Sports Legends Museum, and then at 5pm, we went and ate in the Camden Club. (the restaurant in the big building that you see in right field at the stadium) We had special passes to get up to the restaurant, courtesy of Meghan's dad. We were decked out in our Sox gear and when we went into the stadium we got some comments from the many yankee's fans.

Our seats were in the upper level, up near the left field foul pole. The Yankees won the game, unfortunately, 6-4. A few of Andy's friends from Colby joined us for the game, and Andy ended up going to stay with them in DC for the night....

Sox in Philly....

We were on the road early, heading north to Philly for the Sox game. We met Andy's friend Jack south of Philly, and followed him in to the park.

We were at the park when it opened, we watched BP from our seats in the bleachers. About 12 rows back in right field. There were so many Sox fans at the game, probably about half of the stadium!

The Sox took an early 7-0 lead, and the Phillies slowly chipped away and got themselves back into the game. The Phillies tied the game in the 8th, 8-8. The Sox scored 4 runs in the top of the 9th to eventually win 12-8.

One highlight included sox fans blasting "Dirty Water" in their cars when we were leaving the stadium....Sox fans really are everywhere.

Flying back East....

We woke up early for our 8am flight back to the East Coast. We were all exhausted.

We ended up arriving in DC around 5pm, we got dinner in Baltimore with Meghan's family and then went back to Meghan's house for the night.

Sedona, the Grand Canyon and a Diamondbacks game in 1 day....

We got up early and drove the four hours north to the Grand Canyon. On the way, we stopped at Sedona, it was so beautiful!

The Grand Canyon is amazing. We stopped at a few overlooks on the South Rim and took some pictures. The most amazing part is there are no guardrails, there really is nothing stopping you from going over the edge.

We drove straight back to Phoenix and got back in time for the 7pm D-backs v. Tigers game. We found parking on the street and walked the six blocks to the stadium. It was so hot out, 108 degrees, but not humid at all.

Bank One Ballpark was the first indoor parked that we had ever been in. The dome made for a really different atmosphere. It just didn't feel like a game. The game itself was the worst yet. The fans were dull, and the atmosphere just wasn't that much fun. We were all exhausted and fought to stay awake.

After the game, we went back to Auntie Barbara's and Uncle Wally's and regrouped. It was a long day, we were repacked and in bed by midnight. Tomorrow we have to leave around 5:45am for the airport. In the morning, we are flying back to the east coast for the last leg of our road trip.

San Diego and on to Phoenix

We drove the 2 hours to San Diego, it took us forever to find parking. Everything was expensive, we looked around and kept getting stuck in traffic. By the time we finally parked and got to Petco Park for the Padres v. Dodgers game, it was the 2nd inning.

view from our seats.

The atmosphere was fun to watch the game, 42,000 people. LA ended up winning the game in extra innings, it was a great game.

After, we left San Diego immediately after the game. We drove the 6 hours to Phoenix.

The ride was interesting, we almost got blown off the road in a sandstorm. Thankfully, arrived safely in Phoenix around 10pm.

Laguna Beach & Hollywood

Today we spent a few hours at Laguna Beach. The area is so beautiful.

The worst part about LA is the traffic, it took us forever to get from Huntington Beach (where we had picked up one of Andy's friend in his gated community!) to Hollywood. Hollywood Boulevard was nothing special, we did the touristy stuff just because we felt like we had to, but it was not great.

After, we drove to Rodeo Drive. We met Lauren Fritzinger at the Cheesecake Factory and walked around the area a little. After, we went back to Newport Coast for the night.

Anaheim

Today we drove from San Francisco to Anaheim. We met up with a Bowdoin softball player at her home in Newport Coast, what an amazing location. Southern California is much more like what I thought California would be like, palm trees, warm weather, beautiful houses. We did a little sightseeing near Sterno's house, went to Balboa Island and out to the Peninsula.

Sterno's House

the Ferris Wheel from The OC
That night we went to the Angels v. Rangers game. The stadium had lots of cheap parking, and the stadium itself was really nice. There were 43,000 people there and the crowd was really into it. We sat way up in the upper nose bleed section near the right field foul poul. One highlight was that Andy got on the jumbotron holding up my Red Sox sweatshirt. This was the first stadium that had done the wave since Fenway, but they did the wave in the opposite direction than we do it at Fenway.

San Francisco

We spent the day in San Francisco. We tried to do as much of the tourist stuff that we could do; we walked around Fisherman's Wharf, did some shopping, took a ride on the cable car, drove Lombard Street, saw Mrs. Doubtfire's house, and ventured on a walk towards the Golden Gate Bridge. We must have walked miles, it was a lot further away than it looked!

as close as we got to the bridge.
After exploring the city, we went to the Giants v. Diamondbacks game at 7pm. The park itself was nice, the fans were a ton of fun. We sat way out in the centerfield bleachers, on seats with no backs. One of the more entertaining points of that park was to watch the fisherman and kayaker's collect the home run balls.

The weather in San Fran was freezing. After the game, we drove with one of Andy's friends to her parents house in San Mateo and stayed the night there.
