Final full day in Seoul

Today was our last full day in Seoul. In the morning, we checked out of our hostel and dropped our bags off at the hotel we would be staying at for our final night in the city. We altered our plans a bit because we wanted to watch the South Korea soccer game early tomorrow (Monday) morning on a big screen with all of the fans in front of the Gyeongbokgung Palace. Much like when we watched the finals four years ago with the Eiffel Tower in the view behind the screen, we wanted to experience this scene in Seoul.

After dropping our bags we ventured on a Hop-on, Hop-off, double decker bus tour of the city. At one point we got off and took a cable car up to the top of the hill that overlooks the city. It had some great views.

After the bus tour, we checked into our room in the hotel. From our room we have a perfect view of the 'scene' where we will be watching the game at 4am tomorrow! (See photo below)

We then took the subway to meet Graham to watch a baseball game between the Kia Tigers and Doosan Bears. This scene was amazing. The experience was unlike any other baseball game that we have ever been to (and we have been to a lot!). The crowds were amazing, singing and chanting almost continuously. The cheers were organized by one person, and many of the fans had the big clapper noise makers. It really made the atmosphere of a playoff Red Sox game look kind of pathetic compared to the energy in this stadium for just a normal game! Unfortunately the weather didn't hold out for us and the game was canceled when the pouring rain/thunderstorms/hail came in the 5th inning. (The other thing is they do not wear rain jackets in Korea, EVERYONE has an umbrella - so when the rains came, the amount of umbrellas in the stadium was insane) Another Cushing graduate had met us at the game and he took us after to a food court to eat. We were able to get a good meal (with his help) and then we were back at our hotel by 9pm.

We are calling it an early night. The scene is already crazy outside, the music is loud and there is a ton of people out there already and the game is 6 hours away still! We are hoping to get a little sleep before we head out to watch.
