Day 2 - Biking around Berlin

It was recommended by Patrick that we take bikes into the city. So we rented them for 9 euros each and rode in to the city.We got up early, had breakfast in the hostel and were on the road by 8:15am.

There are bike paths on the sidewalk & road, and special bike lights. Definitely a city made for bikes! It was very easy to get in.

After getting a little lost, we got to the Reichstage at about 9:15am.

There was already a decent line waiting to go to the top (for the best views); we waited for over an hour and a half to get to the top and it was not worth it at all! The views weren't that great.

After, we decided to go to the train station and book our tickets for Krakow. We got tickets for a 9:35am train, got some ice coffees from Dunkins (yes there was a Dunkins in Berlin! The funny thing is, this was where we were a few years ago whenAndy saw his first Dunkins in months while he was studying abroad in Ireland!)

After nearly killing each other in a bike crash, we found a spot in a park near the Reichstag and ate our lunch.
We then ventured off to see the rest of the sights in Berlin. We stopped at the Brandenburg Gate - the location of the "Mr. Gorbachev tear down this wall" speech,

then just further down the road was the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe.

Just stones of different sizes, no words written on them. We then checked out the Berlin Wall, and the Topography of Terror Museum. In the museum there were all fascinating pictures of the Holocaust and World War II.

The next stop was Checkpoint Charlie & Bebelplatz (the Book Burning Square).
After seeing the final two sites, we started the long ride back to the hostel.
On the way we stopped for dinner, and were back at the hostel by 7. We played some cards (the start of 100s of games of Rummy!) and hung out and talked to Patrick for awhile. Tomorrow we are off to Krakow!
